EFSAS comments on OHCHR Report on China’s treatment of Uyghurs in Xinjiang

 

The OHCHR made several recommendations to the Chinese government in the report, including the release of arbitrarily detained individuals and clarification of the whereabouts of missing individuals. It urged the government to curb its surveillance so it doesn’t violate fundamental rights and freedoms, and to provide reparations for victims. It also called for urgent attention by “United Nations intergovernmental bodies and human rights system, as well as the international community more broadly”. The report called on China to undertake a full legal review of its national security and counter-terrorism policies in XUAR.
