Side-event by EFSAS during the 43rd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council
The European Foundation for South Asian Studies (EFSAS) will be organizing a Side-event during the 43rd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.
The title of the Side-event is: "Rise of ISIS in South Asia". A group of international experts will deliberate upon the rise of ISIS in the volatile region of South Asia and the threat this phenomenon poses to peace and human rights in the region.
The session will be moderated by Mr. Junaid Qureshi (Director EFSAS), and the speakers will include:
- Mr. Malaiz Daud - Former Chief of Staff of Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani, Research Fellow at the Barcelona Center for International Affairs and Research Fellow at EFSAS.
- Mr. Timothy Foxley - Independent political/military researcher, Research Fellow at EFSAS and former Senior Analyst for the British Ministry of Defence, the Swedish Ministry of Defence and SIPRI.
- Ms. Martina Hesse - Policy Advisor at the European Parliament, Committee on Foreign Affairs, Subcommittee on Security and Defence and Subcommittee on Human Rights.
- Mr. Michael Krona - Assistant Professor of Media and Communication Studies and Visual Communication at Malmö University and Associate Fellow at the Global Network on Extremism and Technology.
