EFSAS at the European Parliament in Brussels

A delegation of EFSAS consisting of Ms. Isabela Fávero (Research Analyst) and Ms. Yoana Barakova (Research Analyst) held a meeting at the European Parliament in Brussels, with Ms. Ana Gomes, Member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, Subcommittee on Security and Defence and Special Committee on Terrorism. The Jammu & Kashmir conflict, current volatile situation in Afghanistan, ongoing human rights violations in the wider South Asian region, alongside with the alarmingly high levels of radicalization among the youth were thoroughly discussed. The nexus between terrorism in South Asia and the West was further explored in-depth. 

Ms. Gomes invited EFSAS to offer its expert services including advice and analysis to the Special Committee on Terrorism regarding issues pertaining to South Asia. Other opportunities for future collaboration on organizing events in the European Parliament were also explored.

EFSAS also called upon Mr. Peter Šuhel, accredited advisor of Mr. Milan Zver, MEP for the Group of the European People’s Party and a Member of the Special Committee on Terrorism, at the European Parliament in Brussels. Ms. Fávero and Ms. Barakova (Research Analysts EFSAS) discussed preventative strategies against the radicalization of individuals and especially youth via social media, alongside with the current counter-terrorism framework of the EU. It was further agreed to share expertise in respective fields of interest, while simultaneously explore possibilities for future cooperation.
