EFSAS meets Researchers in Bonn and Cologne, Germany

EFSAS held a meeting with Ms. Katja Mielke (Senior Researcher at the Bonn International Center for Conversion – BICC). BICC is an independent, non-profit organization which deals with a wide range of global topics in the field of peace and conflict research centering on Conversion Studies.  Various issues concerning South Asia, like the rise of ISIL, growing radicalization, China-Pakistan strategic partnership, human rights and the issue of Jammu & Kashmir were discussed during the meeting. BICC appraised the delegation of EFSAS about their field-research in Afghanistan, Pakistan and India and opportunities of working together on future projects were explored.

Mr. Dušan Vejinović, Ms. Yoana Barakova and Mr. Junaid Qureshi (EFSAS) were also hosted for a working-lunch at the Global South Studies Center of the University of Cologne with Dr. Alexander Follman (Senior Researcher), Dr. Carsten Buch (Diplomgeograp South Asia), Ms. Martina Gockel-Frank (Administration Manager) and Prof. Dr. Susanne Brandtstädter (Anthropology of Globalization-China). Inequality in South Asia, as a result of conflicts, terrorism and bad governance fuelled by corruption, was a major topic of the discussion. The Global South Studies Center invited EFSAS to speak in November at the University of Cologne on the 'Belt and Road Initiative' (BRI) of China with regard to Gilgit Baltistan and the wider Jammu and Kashmir State. It was also agreed to share each other’s work and expertise on overlapping topic and the establishment of an official partnership was also discussed.
