EFSAS participates in TV Debate and holds meetings with academics and scholars in London

Speaking in a TV debate in the program ‘Speakers Corner’, Director of EFSAS, Mr. Junaid Qureshi discussed the role of the gun (and violence) in the Jammu & Kashmir conflict. The debate was live broadcasted on Venus TV (London) on the 3rd of April 2017. Mr. Junaid Qureshi stated that violence has only brought miseries to the region of South Asia in general and in particular to the people living in Jammu & Kashmir, India and Pakistan. He stressed that only diplomatic and economic cooperation could facilitate dialogue that could serve as the basis for solving long standing conflicts, emphasising that violence has only exacerbated the complexities in the region. He also made a fervent appeal to the youth of Jammu & Kashmir to guard itself from exploitation by nefarious elements, whether on the basis of politics or religion.

Representatives of EFSAS, Ms. Yoana Barakova – Research Analyst, Mr. Dušan Vejinović – Senior Research Analyst and Mr. Junaid Qureshi – Director also held various meetings with academics of prestigious Universities in London and elsewhere in the United Kingdom. The situation in South Asia was an important topic of the discussions and an exchange of views on recent developments related to terrorism and politics in the region also took place. Opportunities for future collaboration on research and organizing seminars and conferences were also explored.

Various meetings were held at De Montfort University in Leicester. Among others, EFSAS spoke with Professor Rob McCusker, Ms. Tina Billington-Hughes, Ms. Kim Sadique and Mr. Adam Aitken.

Professor Rob McCusker is the Head of Division (Community and Criminal Justice) School of Applied Social Sciences, an Academic Expert  for the European Parliament and an Expert at the Centre of Excellence Against Terrorism (COE-DAT). He is also affiliated with the NATO. Ms. Tina Billington-Hughes is a Lecturer in Policing and the Treasurer of the Society for Terrorism Research. Ms. Kim Sadique is Interim Head of CCJ Division and associated to the faculty of Health and Life Sciences. She is also an expert in affairs related to Sri Lanka. Mr. Adam Aitken is an expert in National security.

In London, EFSAS held extensive discussions on South Asia, Terrorism, Indo-Pak relations and the Jammu & Kashmir conflict with Dr. Paul Stott, lecturer at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS University) in London and faculty member of the Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy. Dr. Paul Stott expresed his willingness to share his published work with EFSAS and speak at future seminars and conferences organized by EFSAS.

At the London School of Economics (LSE), EFSAS met and exchanged views on South Asia with Professor Athar Hussain, Director of the Asia Research Centre at the LSE and Dr. Nilanjan Sarkar, Deputy Director of the South Asia Centre at the LSE.

EFSAS with Dr. Adnan Naseemullah, lecturer in South Asia and International Relations at King’s College London and a faculty member of the Department of War Studies & the India Institute. 

 

Dr. Adnan Naseemullah, lecturer in South Asia and International Relations at King’s College London and a faculty member of the Department of War Studies & the India Institute also met with EFSAS and shared his expertise besides agreeing to speak at future conferences and seminars organized by EFSAS.
